It’s time. Eden Hill Restaurant will close on its 10th anniversary, September 4, 2025.

Eden Hill was never a restaurant that made much sense. We were impulsive mid-20-somethings deluded with a sense of invincibility and no professional experience in Seattle when we stumbled into the front door just to ask “what it’s like to have a restaurant in this neighborhood?” and walked out with a purchase transaction in motion. Itself a shoebox of a restaurant with just 24 chairs - all of nine tables - this restaurant was small, charming, and our dream fulfilled.

We pushed her to the limits, maximizing the kitchen’s capacity. We jammed customers into tiny tables with no elbow room from the neighbor. We piled plates in the pass and demanded hands to run immediately because there was no counter space. We purged and purged and purged equipment, plates, dishes, stuff and yet she still always felt stuffed to the brim. She’s held up, cracking under the weight but never buckling. She rose to impossibly charged holiday nights, hibernated in the COVID years, and tolerated our preoccupation with other businesses. She’s a sturdy workhorse but her age is showing. Every rip in the wallpaper, every sag of the shelf, every time we tell a new employee, “oh yea, that outlet doesn’t work.” It’s time to put her out of her misery.

Along the way, we’ve changed. We haven’t had the 14 hours a day to dedicate to this restaurant like we used to for years now. The food that made us popular - intricate and creative dishes with an ungodly amount of steps and Max’s pure creativity - was unsustainable. The rapid changing restaurant economics was once a fun puzzle and now simmers resentment that bleeds into our hospitality. It’s hard to feel generous when we’re feeling so strapped.

People close to us have known for a while that Eden Hill Restaurant’s days were numbered. We’ve been testing the idea with ourselves on our closest friends and family, seeing what it feels like to say “Eden Hill will be closing sometime this year.” It’s a catch in the throat almost every time. Professionally, who are we without our beloved restaurant?

We’re eternally grateful for this little restaurant that could. For every guest who took a chance on experiencing a meal with us. For every employee who cared just as much as we did, if not more so. For every person who stepped foot inside 2209 Queen Anne Ave N over the last 10 years. This remarkable restaurant has formed lifelong connections with people we would have never imagined meeting and forever changed the course of our lives. We want to cherish these final few months with her before locking the door one final time.

This is all we know for now. The future - our future - remains perpetually uncertain. If you’re invested in Queen Anne, we don’t know what’s next for 2209 Queen Anne Ave N. If you’re invested in us, know we’re rallying around Big Max Burger Co as a more stable, reliable, and less personal business but more importantly our family. If you’ve ever considered working with us, give us a call.

Thank you for 10 wonderful years.
